COACHING & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
Having spent decades in the shoes of the organizational leader, I understand the unique challenges of the role. I frequently serve as a sounding board, coach, and thought partner to help leaders build the impactful teams, cultures, and leadership skills needed to deliver the organization’s vision to the world. Being an ED, CEO, or team leader can be a lonely role at times, and having someone who “gets it” and can provide trusted, confidential feedback and guidance can be tremendously valuable (I know it was for me!).
The focus of this work can include both the technical challenges of leading and growing a team (the X’s and O’s of building the organization) and the complex adaptive/cultural issues that emerge on the human side of building an organization that are essential for developing fully engaged and impactful teams.
Many of my coaching clients are experiencing some combination of the following:
The list of critical priorities keeps growing, despite efforts to narrow organizational or personal focus.
The team is not performing to its potential; everyone is very busy, but the critical work isn’t getting done.
There are gaps/holes in the leadership team or organization that need to be filled now, but no time or capacity to address these issues.
The leader feels increasingly frustrated and reactive, playing “whack-a-mole” on problems rather than driving the vision to fruition.
The board is not as engaged and supportive as it could be, and at times feels like more of a burden than an asset to the work.
The leader has a sense of isolation, lacking a trusted thought partner as they wrestle with these challenges.
Oftentimes, their teams may be experiencing one or more of the following:
Direction can waver, as decisions get revisited and mission creep is a threat.
Communication can be siloed and avoids key issues; elephants are allowed to remain in the room.
Lanes of decision ownership and accountability are not always well-defined or followed.
Disengagement is increasing, possibly leading to churn.
We work together to:
-
Understand the underlying root causes that produce the symptoms you and/or your organization is experiencing.
-
Identify what has been holding you back, and holding the team back.
-
Develop goals and a plan for change that is meaningful and important for you.
-
Test, practice, and reinforce adaptive behaviors and mindsets.
-
Measure the results for you, your team, and the people you serve.
